2026. 9. 12. sat - 2026. 12. 27. sunOpening Reception 9. 12. sat 2pm 온라인 전시 바로가기 Visit Online Exhibition 율레 클라우디아 만 Jule Claudia Mahn파트리시아 라가르데 Patricia Lagarde베로니카 셰퍼스 Veronika Schäpers송해인 Haein Song 책이 있는 풍경은 차분한 울림을 전한다. 글을 읽지 않아도 그 존재감만으로 느껴지는 공기가 있다. 얇은 표면 위에 얹힌 글과 이미지, 그렇게 쌓인 종이의 무게에는 오랜 시간과 여러 장소에서 벼려진 작가의 생각이 담겨 있다. 책이 아름다운 사물이 될 수 있는 이유는 굳이 설명하지 않아도 수없이 많을 것이다. 좋은 이야기를 글로 풀어내는 일만큼이나 책의 형식과 재료가 지닌 고유한 결 또한 중요하다. 우리가 책을 경험하는 방식이 그만큼 다양하기 때문이다. 손으로 페이지를 넘기고, 펼치고, 눈으로 보고 생각하고 느낀다. 종이의 색과 질감, 무게와 밀도, 탄성을 읽고 해석하는 일. 서로 다른 재료를 엮어 조화로운 형식과 구조를 만들고, 이야기가 머무는 집을 짓는 일. 우리는 이러한 작업을 하는 숙련된 창작자를 북아티스트라 부른다. 가벼운 종이 한 장에 담긴 이야기들이 엮여 정신의 공간이 된다. 작가가 삶에서 마주한 호기심으로 시작하여 깊이 관찰하고 재구성한 이야기가 책이 된다. 책을 만드는 일에는 정답이 없다. 주어진 모든 가능성을 열어두고 하나씩 지워가는 선택의 과정이 있을 뿐이다. 그것은 무지의 구름 속을 지나, 희미한 막 너머에 존재하는 투명한 세계의 원형을 찾아가는 일인 것이다. 《투명한 사물들》에 참여하는 네 명의 작가는 모두 종이와 빛이라는 재료를 사용하여 책을 만든다. 세상에 대한 그들의 호기심과 탐구심, 상상력이 재료를 만나고, 그것을 다루는 성실한 태도와 숙련된 기술을 통해 하나의 책으로 구현된다. 그 과정에서 탄생한 이 온전한 사물들은 순도 높게 빛나는 보석과 같다. 예술이 지향하는 투명성이 불필요한 것을 걷어내고 본질이 스스로를 드러내는 것을 말한다면, 동양 미학이 말하는 맑고 정한 기운, 종교와 철학이 던지는 근원적인 질문들 또한 결국 책을 통해 전해지고, 책을 만드는 일 속에서 구현되는 것은 아닐까. 종이와 책, 이는 인간 정신이 지닌 아름다움이 머무는 곳이다. 책의 경험은 고요한 모양을 띤다. 손으로 만지고 느끼는 일이 점점 줄어들고, 머물러 사유하는 여유를 갖기 어려워진 시대에 책이 있는 풍경은 그 모습만으로 위로와 안도감을 건넨다. 이 전시는 인간의 정신과 몸이 할 수 있는 가장 아름다운 일 가운데 하나가 책을 만드는 일이라는 것을 보여준다. 기획_주상연 The presence of books carries a quiet resonance. Even before they are opened, they alter the atmosphere around them. Words and images rest upon fragile surfaces, yet within the accumulated weight of paper lie thoughts refined through years of looking, living, and wondering. There are countless reasons why a book may become a beautiful object, most of which resist explanation. As important as the stories books contain are the forms through which they come into being. Every book offers a different way of being experienced. We turn its pages, unfold and close it, read, reflect, and feel. We sense the texture of paper, its weight, density, and resilience. We bring disparate materials into harmony and construct a dwelling place for thought. Those who devote themselves to this practice are known as book artists. Stories carried on sheets of paper are woven together into a space for the mind. What begins as curiosity—a question encountered in the course of living—gradually takes shape through observation, reflection, and transformation. In making a book, there are no fixed answers, only a continual process of choosing and discarding, of narrowing infinite possibilities toward a single form. It is a passage through the unknown, a search for an archetype that exists beyond the visible world. The four artists participating in Transparency of Things each work with paper and light. Their curiosity, imagination, and attentiveness meet material form and, through skill and devotion, take shape as books. The books that emerge from this process possess the quiet clarity of finely cut gems, distilled to their essence. If transparency in art means removing all that is unnecessary so that the essential may reveal itself, then it may not be far from what Eastern aesthetics describes as purity and clarity of spirit, or from the fundamental questions that religion and philosophy have long contemplated. Perhaps books, and the act of making them, remain among the most intimate paths toward these enduring mysteries. Paper and books are places where the beauty of the human spirit comes to rest. Their experience unfolds in silence. At a time when opportunities for tactile engagement are diminishing and sustained contemplation grows increasingly rare, the mere presence of books offers solace and reassurance. Veronika Schäpers deeply explores how the structure and materiality of the book can be integrated with its content. Through the creation of artist’s books with innovative structures and forms, she expands the book into a distinctive artistic object. The components of the book—including paper, binding, structure, and materials—are transformed through meticulous craftsmanship into a unified sculptural space. These elements convey the concepts and narratives embedded within the book through a multidimensional and sensory experience. 파트리시아 라가르데는 대상이 인간과의 관계 속에서 개인적·문화적 의미를 획득하는 과정에 주목하며, 특히 분더카머(Wunderkammer, 경이로운 방)의 수집과 분류 방식에 착안해 대상을 아카이브 구조로 재구성한다. 이와 함께 초기 사진 기법과 현대의 제작 방식을 통해 기억과 의미의 층위를 시각화한다. 아티스트 북에서는 이미지와 책의 구조, 물질적 요소를 결합하여 인간의 기억과 서사를 새로운 방식으로 드러낸다. Patricia Lagarde is interested in the ways objects acquire personal and cultural meaning through their relationship with human experience. Inspired by the collecting and classificatory practices of the Wunderkammer (cabinet of curiosities), she reconfigures objects within archival structures. Combining early photographic processes with contemporary methods of production, she visualizes the layered nature of memory and meaning. In her artist's books, images, book structures, and material elements converge to reveal human memory and narrative in new ways. 율레 클라우디아 만은 시간, 장소 그리고 개인과 독일 사회의 역사가 형성되는 과정을 탐구한다. 이러한 탐구는 책의 내용뿐 아니라 종이, 활자, 판화, 제본 등 책을 이루는 물질적 요소를 통해 구현되며, 읽는 행위와 책의 물성을 하나의 경험으로 결합시킨다. 아티스트 북은 이를 통해 새로운 조형적 공간으로 확장되며, 책에 담긴 의미를 새롭게 사유하도록 이끈다. Jule Claudia Mahn explores how time, place, and personal and collective histories shape individual lives and German society. This inquiry is expressed not only through the content of her books but also through their material qualities, including paper, typography, printmaking, and bookbinding. These elements unite the act of reading with the materiality of the book as a single experience. In her practice, the artist’s book becomes a sculptural space that invites viewers to engage with its meanings in new ways. 송해인은 책을 단순히 텍스트를 전달하는 매체가 아닌, 개인적 경험과 인문학적 사유를 구현하는 대상으로 바라보고 작업한다. 종이의 질감, 인쇄의 흔적, 제본의 구조, 페이지의 흐름 등 책을 구성하는 요소들은 다양한 제작 방식을 통해 의미와 물성을 형성하며, 아티스트 북은 사색과 감각이 결합된 예술적 공간으로 확장된다. Haein Song approaches the book not merely as a medium for conveying text, but as an object through which personal experience and reflections on the human condition are embodied. The elements that constitute the book—including the texture of the paper, traces of printing, binding structures, and the flow of pages—acquire meaning and materiality through diverse methods of making.
